About AGROPATH

The AGROPATH project (Advanced Geomatics and Remote Observation for Precision Agriculture in Higher Education) is an Erasmus+ Capacity Building initiative focused on modernising agricultural education in Ukraine and Moldova through digital transformation and geomatics technologies.

Brief summary

The AGROPATH project (Advanced Geomatics and Remote Observation for Precision Agriculture in Higher Education) aims to enhance geomatics and digital education approaches for precision agriculture in Ukraine and Moldova.

The project focuses on modernising higher education curricula, strengthening institutional capacity, and developing human resources through targeted training activities for academic staff, students, and representatives of rural and vulnerable communities. By integrating advanced technologies and innovative teaching methods, AGROPATH supports the digital transformation of the agricultural sector.

The project brings together universities from the European Union, Ukraine and Moldova to promote knowledge exchange, capacity building, and long-term cooperation. It contributes to improving education quality, fostering sustainable agriculture, and supporting socio-economic development in the region.

Background

Agriculture plays a crucial role in the economies of Ukraine and Moldova, contributing significantly to employment, food security, and regional development. However, the sector faces increasing challenges related to digital transformation, sustainability, and the need for more efficient and precise farming practices.

Higher education systems in both countries are undergoing transformation but still face limitations in integrating modern technologies, such as geomatics, remote sensing, and data-driven decision-making, into agricultural curricula. This results in a gap between academic training and the evolving needs of the labour market.

In addition, recent socio-economic challenges, including the consequences of the war in Ukraine, have further increased the need for resilient, innovative, and digitally oriented solutions in the agricultural sector.

The AGROPATH project is aligned with key European priorities, including digital transformation, the green transition, and sustainable development. It promotes the transfer of knowledge and best practices from European universities to partner countries, supporting the modernisation of higher education and strengthening international cooperation.

Through this collaboration, the project contributes to the development of innovative, sustainable and future-oriented agricultural education systems in Ukraine and Moldova.
